This listing is for an Altar Wall hanging depicting Cailleach. Cailleach is a Celtic Goddess, a crone goddess of the Winter months. Cailleach is Sometimes referred to as the Queen of Winter, but its literal translation means 'Veiled one'. She ushers in the cold and the dark, shaping mountains with her hammer and quashing new life with her staff.
The time of the Cailleach, the bone mother - is a time of strength and endurance, a time for self reflection in the stillness, a time for clarity.
Just as the word solstice is derived from the Latin word for sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still) we are reminded of the importance to pause, just as the sun appears to pause in the sky at the solstice when it reaches its highest point and changes direction, before once again gaining in strength.
