Hephaestus was one of the twelve Olympians, his mother was Hera. Sometimes Zeus is credited as being his father. Hephaestus was married to Aphrodite before they divorced and then went on to have relations with Charis and Aglaea (two of the 3 graces, awkward.)
Hephaestus served as blacksmith to the other gods of Olympus and made all their weapons.
Many skilled artisans still seek the guidance and inspiration of Hephaestus to this day, he is honoured in many pagan homes across the world.
