Introducing a brand new Altar Tile depicting Medusa. Depending on what origin story you lean to Medusa is not always seen as a goddess but nevertheless holds a special place on many witches and wiccans altars.
One version of the tale of Medusa, was that she was a priestess, a beautiful woman who attracted the unwanted attention of Poseidon. It was in Athena's temple that Poseidon 'assaulted' Medusa. Medusa, although the victim, and this was not her fault, was punished and turned into the version of a gorgon we recognise today.
The other tale is she was one of 3 sisters, daughters of the gods Phorkys and Keto. Medusa was the only one of the Gorgon sisters to be born in human form. A powerful queen that had the ability to turn gods into stone with her stare. When she was beheaded by Perseus, Pegasus and Chrysaor were born from her blood. Some believe she was later fully restored by the Great Mother.
In modern paganism snakes are seen as a symbol of transformation and rebirth and many celebrate Medusa as a goddess on their altar today, a symbol of female empowerment, strength and resilience. Some might say, even a ward.
This tile is available in two sizes, 7 to 8 cm and 9 to 10 cm please select your preference.
