This listing is for the stunning Persephone.  Persephone is a Greek  Goddess, the Goddess of Spring and the underworld.  Wife of Hades and daughter of Demeter.

Persephone spends Spring and Summer with Demeter her mother in this world and Persephone spends the other half of the year with her husband Hades in the Underworld. 

The story surrounding Persephone is that she was handed a pomegranate by Hades and ate 6 seeds.  The pomegranate is a symbol of the indissolubility of marriage, by eating 6 seeds she tied herself to Hades for six months of the year and during this time ruled alongside Hades as the Queen of the underworld.

The remaining 6 months is spent in our world, her return from the underworld heralded spring.  Demeter in her joy of her daughters return makes sure the flowers are blooming and crops are growing and the fields are green.  Every Autumn, when Persephone returns to the underworld Demeter ignores the crops and flowers and lets them die as she mourns the loss of her daughter once more.  

I have sculpted Persephone wearing a yellow dress decorated with a Narcissus flower, white buds and lavender.  The colours I most associate with Spring and Summer.  Persephone is dressed in a black cape and iron spikey crown, she holds a black staff in one hand and a pomegranate as an orb in the other denoting her regal position of queen of the underworld.  If Persephone is a deity you call upon, this Altar statue would be a great addition to your Altar!

This beautiful Goddess figurine has been hand sculpted and hand painted, as such - no two are never exactly the same.  As each goddess is made by hand, to order your Persephone may differ, there may be some minor variations in details, including the size, which is around 4 inches.  Our Goddesses take time to sculpt, paint and varnish to which end we ask you to allow up to 5-6 working days for us to prepare your Goddess for delivery.

We are based in Wiltshire in the UK, near to our Spiritual home of Avebury, the White Horse and a short distance from Stone Henge.  All the items you see on our pages are made, photographed and packaged by us.
