Welcome to our listing for a Persephone goddess altar decoration.  Persephone is a Greek  Goddess, the Goddess of Spring and the underworld.  Wife of Hades and daughter of Demeter.

Demeter measures around 6 cm in height.  Narcissus flowers cover her nipples, upon her right thigh is a Pomegranate and 6 seeds and on the other thigh sits a spiral indicating the continually of her time spent in this world and the underworld.   There is a Aventurine bead is embedded inside her tummy. 

A greek belief is that the Narcissus flower is a symbol of early death.  It is also the flower gathered by Pesephone on her way to Hades.  The daffodil often associated with spring.

The story surrounding Pesephone is that she was handed a pomegranate by Hades and ate 6 seeds.  The pomegranate is a symbol of the indissolubility of marriage, by eating 6 seeds she tied herself to Hades for six months of the year and during this time ruled alongside Hades as the Queen of the underworld.

The remaining 6 months is spent in our world, her return from the underworld heralded spring.  Demeter in her joy of her daughters return makes sure the flowers are blooming and crops are growing and the fields are green.  Every Autumn, when Persephone returns to the underworld Demeter ignores the crops and flowers and lets them die as she mourns the loss of her daughter once more.

I have chosen Aventurine because of its strong association to Spring.  Green Aventurine is said to emit a soothing energy, a stone of opportunity it attracts luck but it is said to allow one to move forward and embrace change. 

Its magical correspondences are similar in that it also can aid chance magick by attracting luck and wealth, but it can also be used for healing.

As this piece is handmade, it is important to point out that each piece can vary slightly, but we believe this adds to the magic and makes each and everyone that little bit more special!
