Ereshkigal measures around 6 cm in height, she wears Mesopotamian headwear and wings that signify her connection to the underworld. Owls flank her thighs, for they symbolise night, death and the wisdom of the underworld. A Onyx gemstone rests within her belly.
Ereshkigal originated as the goddess of Kur in Mesopotamian Mythology, the land of the dead or the underworld. In later times, Some called her Irkalla, which is the name of lands she ruled alongside her husband Nergal. A dark and dreary realm of which there is no escape.
Samhain, summer's end and the descent of darkness is the time of Ereshkigal. For she is a symbol of life and death, the connection between the devine and the living. Some work with Ereshkigal in Shadow work, exploring one's inner darkness or shadow self.
